REPESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

Analyzes, modifies and/or designs computer programs across mainframe, midrange, client server and desktop platforms, to ensure user requirements/program objectives are met.

Develops documentation including the use of flowcharts, project specifications, diagrams to translate user requirements into programming language; develops/modifies illustrations of program sequences necessary to meet user requirements.

Analyzes new and existing vendor software; provides installation, maintenance and customization of vendor software as required.

Develops and recommends alternative programming approaches to realize desired specifications and/or enhancements based on user requirements. Performs feasibility studies, life cycle analysis and/or cost/benefit studies.

Consults with end user to identify current operations procedures and clarify program objectives.

Monitors computer program performance to detect errors; applies testing procedures/methodologies (e.g., diagnostic software) and provides interpretation of data.

Provides input during client strategic planning (as required) as part of technical expertise.

May provide guidance to and assist in the training of less experienced staff; provides hardware/software training as required.

Education and Typical Years of Experience: A Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including at least 1year computer/systems design experience in a large-scale computer/systems environment and at least 6 months software installation, maintenance and customization experience. Proficiency using personal computer and associated work station/computer-assisted tools, etc. Demonstrates commitment to providing customer-focused quality service.

Specific Requirements: Strong Linux administration experience is a must. In addition, Sun Solaris 9, 10 or other Unix platform experience will be good.

* Technical skills includes Linux patching, troubleshooting, break fix, upgrades and migration from one OS platform to Linux platform.

* TCP/IP, good understanding of networks, shell scripting and application installation support.

* Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. * Clusters, Volume manager experience

* Day to day activity ranges from as simple a task as user creation/deletion to building servers, filesystem creation/growth/mirroring/maintenance using local/SAN disk, Enable/disable Multi Pathing for SAN disks, package/patch maintenance, network config using IP Multi Pathing, performance/kernel tuning, co-ordinating with vendors like Sun/Veritas/IBM/etc., troubleshooting all kind of problems on servers, etc.

The environment includes the softwares and tools like Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Clusters, Veritas Timefinders and Solaris Volume Manager. Applications like Web Logic, Web Sphere and Apache are used on these servers in addition to databases like Oracle, Sybase and IBM UDB. The environment includes backup tools like Veritas Netbackup and Tivoli Storage Manager.
