May perform one or more of the following:

Installation, maintenance and systems administration of OpenVMS operating systems and third party products running on various HP Alpha and VAX platforms. Also responsible for documentation and training, daily support and trouble shooting, system backups, customer consulting, file management, performance and tuning. 

Participation in an on-call rotation for off-hours problem support. Coordinates the configuration, installation, and scheduling of new/improved applications and upgrades to operating systems, as well as servers in support of business processing requirements. 

Serves as project leader on special assignment implementations of software/hardware upgrades and system installs in accordance with established IT policies, procedures, and Service Level Agreements (SLA). 

Develops as well as implements a schedule of system backups and database archive operations to ensure data/media recoverability through proper administration of offsite storage and retrieval services. Regulates systems usage and performance; resolves system problems and processes tracking/reporting of maintenance; and fine-tunes systems to achieve optimum levels of performance. Ensures system data integrity by evaluating and managing the appropriate software/hardware solutions, and report weekly on problems or issues related to system capacity. 

 Advises management/clients on all operational documentation related to the use of system software/hardware as well as daily operational and environmental procedures. Mentors lower level System Administrators, providing guidance during the troubleshooting process, and training on new products. 

 Design, develop, and maintain software programs, scheduling services, and monitoring systems. Communicate software status and provide quality documentation, as well as general and detailed software design specifications. Conduct studies analyzing user requirements, perform a cost analysis, identify alternate software packages, approaches, and offer recommendations based on prepared reports for presentation to the client. 

Education and Typical Years of Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including at least 2 years computer/systems design experience in a large-scale computer/systems environment and at least 1 month software installation, maintenance and customization experience.

Proficiency using personal computer and associated work station/computer-assisted tools, etc.
