May perform one or more of the following:

Designs and implements system requirements for customers and analyzes existing systems.

Installs and maintains mainframe, midrange, or NT operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance.

Evaluates system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

Develops, tests, installs, and modifies computer software for operating systems, compilers, utilities, multiprogramming, and telecommunications systems.

Develops and installs programs for large-scale or high volume transactions requiring IBM/MVS or similar mainframe processing.

Develops and installs programs to support general business applications.

Develops programs on midrange computers such as the IBM AS/400 or UNIX based mini/midrange computers.

Evaluates and installs database management systems.

Plans computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection.

All other duties as assigned.

Specific Requirements:

· Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of writing justifications for change activity, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management. Independent problem solving; self-direction.

· Is comfortable with most aspects of UNIX systems administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printing systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software.

· A solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts ("inode", "superblock").

· Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS and NIS, can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS, understands basic routing concepts.

· Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell).

Specific Skills Required:

· Solid Administrative knowledge of AIX, up to AIX 5.2.

· Experience of IBM P-Series hardware, Power-4.

· Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and good networking troubleshooting skills.

· Ability to evaluate and correct system performance.

· Familiarity with AIX's LVM structure and components.

· Knowledge of EMC, Hitachi or IBM disk arrays.

· Shell-scripting skills.

· Knowledge of HACMP would be beneficial.

• TSM/NetBackup experience would be beneficial.
