REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Determines computing resource requirements, such as computer time, memory and priority considerations necessary to support designated user(s)/reporting systems. May conduct site research including discussion with users and ACS' programmers and (computer) operations staff, i.e. analyzing internal user procedures, process/work flow, and deadlines.


May make recommendations to user to enhance scheduling and processing.


May verify record (input and output) count for accuracy, correct copies, microfiche requirements, etc.


Evaluates processing workload and schedules jobs to meet functional deadlines and to maximize utilization of resources using job-scheduling software. Resolves scheduling conflicts with user and operations staff; troubleshoots processing problems and resubmits jobs as necessary and/or escalates to supervision.


Ensures availability of hardware and associated equipment, resources, etc. Monitors execution from console or workstation.


Responds to requests from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for general production control assistance. May develop or modify job control language and procedures as necessary.


May perform or assist in performing various associated I/O, operations and library functions, such as, back-up and error recovery/retrievals (where specific procedures are defined), data/document control and report distribution/data output. May also perform client file maintenance as required.


Maintains associated production reports, logs, et.al. in support of function. May assist in preparation of monthly workload forecasts and coordinates or assists in the coordination of schedules with user(s).


Ensures that appropriate billing records are generated for each job.


Performs all module migrations.


Coordinates turnover between shifts to ensure a smooth transition.


Trains and monitors performance of assigned staff and coordinating related on-site activities.
 
Education and Typical Years of Experience:
High School graduate plus specialized vocational, trade school, military/technical training or equivalent work experience. Some college coursework or an associate's degree is desirable.


5 - 7 years progressively responsible related experience demonstrating familiarity with a broad range of medium and large scale computer systems, platforms, peripherals and standard operating procedures including a basic working knowledge of scheduling and job processing languages, such as SDSF, TSO, JCL and other IBM utilities. Previous experience as a computer operator is desired but not required.
