Responsibilities:

Operates (unassisted) stand-alone and attached equipment to complete each processing task. Monitors progress ensuring that the operating system and its subservient software is performing at optimal processing levels. May act as senior master console operator for one or more computer systems, controlling movement of jobs to/from other systems to ensure operational efficiency.

Identifies systems hardware and software malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action as necessary to troubleshoot/resolve operating problems referring to established procedures and/or escalates problems to more experienced personnel within the department.

Responds to requests from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for operations assistance. Advises Help Desk in assisting customers experiencing multiple types of system/applications problems.

Performs preventative maintenance and system backup procedures regularly in accordance with company standards.

Checks for outstanding replies for bringing tape drives on/off-line or tape error alerts; maintains scheduled reports of operations activities including trouble reports, logs, etc. Maintains daily logs, turnovers, and equipment malfunction reports.

Responds to requests from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for operations assistance as needed.

Communicates with clients concerning schedules, reports and availability of databases.

Maintains inventory of expendable supplies and may restock paper, printer ribbons, etc.

Provides occasional work direction to and assists in training less experience computer operators. Demonstrates knowledge of the daily operation and monitoring of the mainframe or mid-platform systems; capable of performing all job duties of the Associate Computer Operator and Computer Operator positions

Responsible for Mainframe computer operations experience, demonstrating familiarity with a broad range of medium and large-scale computer systems, platforms, peripherals and standard operating procedures, including knowledge of scheduling and job processing languages.

 

Education and Typical Years of Experience:

High School diploma or equivalency plus specialized training or an Associate degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.



Specific Requirements:

VM/VSE, Z/OS mainframe console operation experience required.

IBM TSO, CICS, IMS, JCL experience required.

System Shutdown Process (IPL) knowledge on VM/VSE systems is desired.

Must have good verbal and written English communication skills.

Knowledge of Change and Incident Management concepts and processes.

Should be ready to do night shifts and weekends as required by business. 


Job Specification: 3- 5 or more years of Data Center operations experience.
